Darker, my love

October 22nd, 2009

For some reason, the change of seasons and the colder weather in NY makes me want to dress more on the edgy side…a little bit of punk, more black than normal, a harder look overall.  Maybe it’s a response to making such girly things all the time…maybe it’s a subconscious thing related to needing to guard yourself more seriously against the elements (the weather, the city, the crazy people) here.  Either way, trying out new styles and recreating yourself is one of the most fun things about fashion.  Here are a few looks that have recently caught my eye.

Actually, these boots by Balmain have caught everyone’s eye.  They are probably the most sought after shoe this season….that is, if you can shell out the 1050 bucks.

Vera

This is Vera Wang.  I know!  Even Vera feels the tug of the tough girl within.  Where the Wild Things Are, anyone?

Vera 2Okay, so this isn’t quite so tough, but for me…closer.  Between the wrapped leather shoes and the black tulle cloud, this manages to generate a dark feeling while staying girly and luxe.

Speaking of Balmain, their Fall ‘09 ready to wear collection is pretty amazing.

To me, this says, “I may be a pretty gypsy woman, but I’ll still kick your butt.”

Those shoes again.  Siiiigh.

Do YOU have a favorite new piece this season?  Do you get the same urge to switch things up that I do?

Tell me about it!

Happily Yours,

Carol Hannah

I love black and the boots are fabulous! I am just loving boots this season…just about all boots.

I think it’s really interesting how you feel like going darker and edgier and less girly, yet you choose dark designs that are still very girly. I like that. That type of aesthetic is pretty cool since it nicely balances two opposites.

My boyfriend and I (HUGE fans of PR) have always thought that your personal style aesthetic is pretty close to mine. I love the way you dress! I personally am a big fan of chic sundresses and all that is summer wear. But I am so with you on this post. The colder weather has me in such a different place. My last big purchase (ok, it was from Target. I’m a poor college grad!) had so much black in it, and my closet has almost none!

And a couple tops and another dress. Exploring a strange new world for a girl who is most comfortable in a sundress and sandals! :D
